Gene Seed

The Angels of Destruction's gene seed is extremely stable and is even known to disable psychic mutations. Therefore, the chapter's librarians must be very talented psykers even before their training begins. Librarians are not widespread within the chapter's ranks, but the few ones who complete their training are formidable warriors and psykers.

Although weakening any natural psychic talent, it provides all Space Marines of the Angels of Destruction with some sort of "empathy" called "The Lion's Gift". This allows them to see or sense the connections between conspirators. It also makes them very conscious of any connection to the Fallen that any of these conspirators have. Before the Marine is inducted into the Deathwing, however, he doesn't understand these special connections he sees.

This ability is stronger with older members of the chapter as they have had the time to become experienced in its use and to finetune their senses to these connections. Apprentice Chaplains are often chosen not during the young marine's training years in the scout company, but during the following years as a fully inducted Battle Brother. The reason for this is that "The Lion's Gift" only appears after the progenoid glands are implanted in the scout, and this happens at a late stage during a scout's training. The marines with the most evident sign of the gift and only the most pious of these marines are selected to become Chaplains.

During the Chaplain's training, he becomes more and more experienced with his gift, even though he has no idea why he is being trained in such a way. This doubt is taken away as soon as he becomes a fully initiated Chaplain and member of the Deathwing.
