The Fleet

 Ensign

- While all marines are trained to fight, some marines show their aptitude in other areas. One of the rarest is in the Space Marine Fleets. Marines assigned to the fleet have a tactical mastery for large-scale engagements and have a clear sense of command. Nearly all Fleet Marines come from a reserve company. Fleet Marines move around the ship without their backpacks. This is due to the connection their suit makes as the marine takes their station. This connection creates a physical link between the marine and the ship. With a thought, the marine can perform several functions and receive real-time data from the ships sensory augurs. Fleet Ensigns command a portion of the ship’s human crew compliment and helps to facilitate their readiness and training.

- Fleet marines rarely get out of their armor while ship-board. They are identical to a battle marine save their Right Shoulder Pad which reflects the heraldry of the ship they are assigned.

  Lieutenant (Sergeant)

- The marine has gained a level of mastery that exceeds those of his peers. He is given the responsibility, duties and the formal training to lead as well as train those Fleet Ensigns and crew under him. They are under the watchful eye of the Inner Circle to see if they are eligible to be members of the Deathwing.

- The Lieutenant is recognizable by the Gold trim on their Shoulder Pads. They also wear the Ceremonial Dagger of the Sergeants on their belt. When not aboard their ship, the marines wear the robes similar to the Battle Sergeants with the exception of the Ship Heraldry and a gold band over each shoulder.

 Veteran (Vet Sergeant)

- The Fleet Lieutenant is inducted into the Deathwing’s Outer Circle (Level 7) but remain in their suits of power armor. The Veteran Sergeants undergo training in Terminator armor to receive the Terminator Honors. There can be 1-3 Veterans or Lieutenants serving under a Commander at any one time.

- Fleet Veterans repaint their Left Shoulder Pad white with the Deathwing Logo but maintain the Gold trim of Fleet Lieutenant. They wear the plain bone robes of the Veteran Sergeants again with a single gold band over each shoulder.

 Commander (MSgt)

- Fleet Commanders are those Veterans that continue to gain mastery of celestial combat and have become invaluable members of the Ship’s Command Staff. They advance in the Outer Circle to Level 6. Depending on the size of the ship, there can be anywhere from 1-5 Commanders serving directly under the Captain. Commanders have limited command over the Techmarines assigned to the vessel. Some Commanders are given command of transport or supply ships.

- Commanders repaint their greaves on their armor bone white to show their rank.

 Ship Captain (Lieutenant)

- They have become true masters of war and have again risen above their peers to take the reins of power. They advance to Level 5 in the Outer Circle and take command of one of the Chapter’s ships. Typically, they will take command of an Escort vessel like a Frigate or a Destroyer. Those with the rank of Captain or higher have command authority over the Techmarines serving aboard the vessel.

- Captains are allowed to have completely bone colored suit of Power Armor.

 Admiral (Brother-Captain)

- Proving capable at the helm of a smaller vessel, the Captain is promoted to Admiral and takes command of a Strike Cruiser as well as being brought into the Middle Circle (Level 4). They are responsible to see that there cargo gets to their target and deploys without incident. They also have command of the group of escorts attached to each cruiser.

- Admirals can be recognized by the black field under the Red Deathwing device on their Left Shoulder Pad.

 Fleet Admiral (Master)

- Fleet Admirals take command of one of the few Battle Barges within the Dark Angels fleet. In rare instances, they will have Strike Cruisers in their flotilla of ships in which case they are under the Fleet Admirals command. As a Master, they are inducted into the Inner Circle of the Deathwing (Level 3)

- Fleet Admirals change the Deathwing device to White

 Fleet Grand Admiral (Grand Master)

- The highest-ranking Dark Angel in command of a Dark Angel vessel, they sit on the Command Throne of the Rock itself. They have the gravest of responsibilities and the mantle is very heavy. They wear a uniquely crafted suit of Terminator Armor that allows an interface with the ship.

- The Fleet Grand Admiral only removes his armor when the ship is well protected and secured. Otherwise, he continually wears the Terminator armor and is in a constant link with the ship. His Deathwing logo is gold and the armor plate beneath it has stars. It is rumored that the stars on the plate shift to be constantly looking towards the ruins of Caliban.

 Supreme Grand Master (General)

- The highest man in the Chapter Chosen by his predecessor prior to their death, he alone can gain access to Luther's cell. Only the Chief Librarian, Grand Master of the Chaplains and the Supreme Grand Master make up the First Level of the Inner Circle.

- The Grand Master removes all ornamentation on his robes and replaces it with the Black Chapter Badge. Only his heraldry on his Right Shoulder Pad and Standard remain. He can be seen on the battlefield by his badges of office - the Sword of Secrets and the Lion Helm.
