Librarians

Competitor

- Selected to take part in the Trails to become a Marine. This is the only time they are completely human. Psykers are usually discovered at this point and separated. They are further tested by the Librarians to determine the extent of their powers and mental strength. Those who are not strong enough to become marines are immediately killed or trained to perform a more mundane task within the Chapter and remain human.

- Since they are not a member of the Dark Angels, they will retain the garb of their homeworld.

 Novice

- The child Psyker is going through puberty and gaining all the organs to become a fully-fledged marine. At the same time, he is beginning his training to strengthen his willpower over his mental gift. Training for the Novice is twice as difficult as the normal recruits.

- During this phase, they wear blue robes with the white Chapter Badge.

 Adept

- The Psyker is now formally inducted into the Deathwing Lower Circle (Level 7 through 5) He continues to undergo physical and mental training and testing. To advance beyond this level, the Adept is mentally assaulted by the other Librarians to see if the he is strong enough to avoid going mad or evade possession as well as resist the Librarians attacks.

- The Adept wears the bone white robes with Blue Bands with no other adornment.

 Lexicanium

- After proving themselves strong enough to venture out alone they are given a suit of power armor and force weapon (though they are also trained in using the Tactical Dreadnought Armor). The Lexicanium goes out with the marines to report on the battles undertaken by the Dark Angels. They will have been inducted to the Middle Circle (Level 4) of the Deathwing. They take on the secondary role of testing new recruits and watching any marine that maybe worthy to join the First Company

- When not in combat, they wear their bone robes with blue bands but now adorned with device depicting a horned skull as well as the Chapter badge. Lexicanium have small neural connection on their scalp or on their helmet, which connects them with their Force Weapon. Should they choose to wear battle robes or a tabard over their blue armour, then the blue bands are switched to black as per the guidelines in the Codex Astartes.

 Codicier

- After gaining many years of experience and continual training, the librarian is given the greater responsibility of reviewing the reports from the Lexicani and adding them to the Chapter’s record. They take on the secondary role of training the Novices and Adepts as well as instructing the regular marines about the past of the Dark Angels. They are inducted into the Inner Circle (Level 3) at this time.

- They wear the same robes as before but modify the horned skull device to include lightning bolts. On the field of battle, they wear a simple psychic hood and modify the insignia on their tabard or battle robes as per the Codex Astartes.

  Epistolary

– The Librarian’s psychic skills have grown great enough that they are called upon to partake in the Interrogation of a Fallen Angel or to facilitate psychic communication between the different commanders on the battlefield. They are brought into the second Level of the Deathwing. They oversee the continual training of the Lexicani and Codiciers..

- They wear the same robes as before but modify the horned skull w/ lightning device to include a parchment or a book. On the field of battle, they wear an elaborate and decorated psychic hood with a further modified insignia on their tabard or battle robes as per the Codex Astartes.

 Chief Librarian

- The Librarian has gained a level of mastery that exceeds those of his peers. He is given the terrible responsibility to lead his fellow Librarians and to become the Keeper of the Book of Salvation. He alone has the final say in who can join the Deathwing’s Inner Circle. He also takes his place in the Innermost Circle of the Deathwing (Level 1) upon the death of the previous Chief Librarian. Librarians are not allowed to become Supreme Grand Master due to their gift and to remove the possibility that a Librarian to be possessed and lead the Chapter into ruin.

- They wear the same robes as before but modify the horned skull w/ lightning device but replace the parchment or book with a single sword. On the field of battle, they wear an elaborate and compact psychic hood. The Chief Librarian always fights in a plain bone-white robe and carries the Book of Salvation with him at all times.
