Grand Opening Contest! PDF Print E-mail

The site has just opened, and as can be seen if you poke around our innards a bit, we're still a bit bare. This has to change! And with your help, it will.

Here's the deal. The Codex is running a contest from now until the end of March. To be specific, until the end of the 31st of March 2006. During this period, you can send in articles. When the deadline ends, I will choose the two best ones from those that were deemed good enough to be published by our editing staff. Those will win our prizes, which are:

  1. A box of "Space Marine Assault Terminators and Land Raider Crusader".
  2. A Dark Angels Tactical Squad box.

I hope you can agree that while not HUGE, the rewards are certainly nice at least. Plus, everyone gets the honor of helping make this site become a good resource for Dark Angel players everywhere.

To participate, send your entries (in Word format, HTML, pure text, whatever you want) to . If you don't have Word, one good option is to download Open Office, as it's free.

Your article can be from any of the following categories. All will be judged equally (which is why I'm not allowing a public vote. A flashy picture can distract people from good but more sober tactical articles, for example, skewingg the results a bit):

  • Fiction
  • Painting Guide
  • Background article, both history and organization
  • Tactical article
  • Battle Report
  • Army Showcase, i.e. a piece including bits and pieces from any and all of the above, relating to your own army
Moreover, this article can focus on any of the four "sides" of the Dark Angels or their successors: Deathwing, Ravenwing, Fallen, and Battle Companies.

The rules of the contest follow after the cut:

Discuss this article on the forums. (32 posts)

  • Everyone can participate, except me. Or my wife, but she doesn't play Warhammer. Everyone else has the same chances.
  • You can submit more than one article, BUT this isn't a lottery. You don't get more tickets for submitting more than one poorly-thought-out piece.
  • You must be a member of our site. Registration is free of course, and quick. The reason for this is that when you submit one article you will be made an author, meaning you can change your stuff and even make new articles directly on the site.
  • You must agree that  your submitted piece can be edited. The nature of this site is such that our small number of editors can alter everyone's pieces. Rest assured that other authors don't have access to do so. However, all editing will be cosmetic in nature. Your article will stand on it's own merits until the end of the contest.
  • All articles deemed good enough will be published for the public to see. You can still edit them after this. The judgement will be performed on the final state of the piece on 31.03.2006.
  • You accept that not all articles will be published. A minimum standard of quality or length will apply. I won't give a minimum word count. Just make it compelling. If we decide an article has to be revised before publication, you will be given author status and a chance to do it on the site itself.
  • The winner will be decided one week after the end of the contest, on the 7th of April.

I guess that's about it. There's a forum thread for discussion of the contest, so if you have any questions or disagreements please let us know.
