Current Site Issues - 2006/02/26 17:02 OK, here are the problems that I have detected with the site at the moment. Dear visitor, if you know of more that aren't noted here, please reply and let me know. And no, "No Content" doesn't count

- I believe the site may be incompatible with old versions of Internet Explorer, 5 and previous. This is probably a Joomla issue and not the site itself, but I'd still to know for sure. If you're using that browser, please report here your experience.
- Editing a content item in IE6 stays in "Please Wait" forever. This is only for authors, of course, but I'm trying to make a complete listing here. In any case, I *believe* this is fixed for now.
- Forums may or may not be finalized, depending on user feedback.
- The image menu is being redesigned to make it a bit more usable. This will include havin a "Home" link to go back to the main page. For the moment, to do that, just click on the "About Codexunforgiven" link.
- The user menu should change to having a white background soon, instead of the current green
- The green "metal" background will be darkened so it doesn't clash with the red links so much.
- When using Opera, the Forums link in the image menu goes under the random image.

Again, please report here any problems that you find.

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/02/27 07:42 Issues i have with the design are:

1/ The font used on the main menu bar on the left is hard to read, i recommend you replace the font with somthing simple.

2/ Login link hard to find, recommend you have it in the menu bar at the top of the forum with "home, my profile ect".

3/ When replying the text you put in is tiny but when you post it, it will come out at a normal size.

4/ Recommend you bin the "select an item" bar to keep navigation simple and easy to use.

5/ make the top image in the site a link to the home page of the site.

Thats about all for now, ill have a deeper look into any problems with the site design or any improvments that would be usefull.

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/02/27 13:12 a few new things

1/ Need the "my profile section" to have more options like being able to set the forum time to local time, for me its -5 hours (im in the uk).

2/ Could you add in the users post count under there name/image so you can quickly tell if the user is a new user or not (thinking when this forum gets popular).

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/02/27 22:59 -metalbacground Vs text

BG is still fine. IT's dark enough (it's dang near black, in the problem areas as is), the text, on the main page(well all ext, that is't over a white b/g, really) needs to be brightened a bit, they're just too dark, for the already near black bakgrounds.

-cannot copy only bits and pieces of posts. dragging automatically selects the whole thing. slightly annoying.

while not a major issue, maybe bring the typing feild, up to the top? some people may not notice their scroll bar expanded, and the area is further down below a bunch of empty space. this also happens for othr things like "my profile", etc., the new feilds get pushed WAY down to the bottom.

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/02/28 05:33 Ezekial, I think your problems mostly stem from incompatibilities with different browsers. For me, the typing area DOES show up on top, and these large empty areas don't exist. Also, I can select text inside posts normally.

Also, about the colors. I'm sorry to ask, but could it be that you're having issues with your monitor? In the main page, the text is very close to pure white, and the backgroud is light enough to make it had to read the white text over it. It's certainly not near black...

I'm not trying to make you switch browsers or anything, but purely for testing have you tried seeing the page using Fireefox? Or Opera?

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/02/28 06:12 i can see the main text perfectly. Any eta on the other fixes and the forum organisation i brought up astro? Brother Xeres Signing out

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/02/28 06:41 Yeah. The forum organization will have to be rethought by me, which means I need to have some time to do it. I'm swamped with work currently, so it will be a couple days I think.

As for the rest of the issues, the new left menu and the coloring problems should be taken care of this week. As for the compatibility issues that Ezekial and others have reported, I haven't got an ETA yet.

One thing I'd like to say. One or two people have complained about the top menu and a few other things, and requested some solutions that require some extensive rethinking. Unfortunately, I'm a complete newbie at this stuff. The design wasn't made by me, but by a professional (check the bottom of every page). Therefore, anything that's harder than "tweaks" will cost me, and I simply can't do it now. So please, when suggesting things, keep this in mind and see if you really can't work with things as they are now.

More options with profiles and logins are a special case. This is done by installing and configuring software, so I can do it myself. I just don't know how the new software will work with the design. I'll play around with it, probably in the weekend. Be aware, though, that when I do it's likely that normal navigation will be affected for a while.

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/02/28 17:14 and what browser do you use?

the colors. no, not having any moniter difficulties. bright/contrast are turned up all the way, and it's no good. any less on those 2 and it gets eben worse to see the colours.
i can tweak the gamma.. but then [b]everything]/b] else becomes glaringly bright, and with a white fade over everything. (though think i may have found a.. close to neutral, to here and rest of comp.)

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/02/28 17:25 I'm using Mozilla Firefox. If you're willing to test this, can you try using that just to check if any of your problems disappear? You can uninstall it pretty cleanly after. With the right revolting piety of tone

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/03/01 17:01 I'm using firefox, all fine and dandy, the navigation takes alittle getting use too but I can't fault it.

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/03/02 20:27 I'm still getting that "Please Wait" on the add content page.

Is there a way to add stuff without needing that Intro Text being required. Then we can add stuff and fix it later once you get the IE issue fixed?

Re:Current Site Issues - 2006/03/02 22:03 Ugh no, sorry. Not that I know of, at least. I've perstered the developers on the official forums and also told my web designer to look into it, as he's had this sort of issue before. I hope I can give you a permanent solution later.

In the meantime, I hate to ask this, but you could consider downloading Firefox and using it to edit the pages, as the editor works fine with it. It's up to you, some people don't mind and some don't want to install weird crap on their computers. Firefox is a good browser, and should uninstall cleanly once I get this thing fixed.

Cheers

With your permission, I'd like to change the structure a bit. I'll make them all part of one article, and insert page breaks to separate them visually. that way you can get an index, and it won't take much room in the main category.
