Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/02/27 07:47 Right guys, thought i would get this tactic section off to a start. So what i want you to do is post up how you use a type of unit or any other tips (dont bother with the basic ones like "meltas are good vs tanks ) you may have. Brother Xeres Signing out

Re:Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/02/28 10:32 Well when it comes to the HQ slot (the mandatory one) I generally always take a Chaplain. I mean he is nasty and I believe he is more cost effective (especially when its comes to my Deathwing 1st company) But all 3 are nice so it is more personal flavor than anything else.

I use to take the Commander for the armywide LD-10 but with the number of terminator honors I had for Vet. Sarg.s my army is generally LD-9 to begin with ... and between 'And they shall no know fear' and 'stubborn' I rarely run away anyway. So why not go for the nastier chaplain model ... and the model is extremly cool.

Yep, that has been my experience as well. Of course, sometimes I use a Commander or Captain anyway for fluff and so on, but it's not common.

Re:Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/02/28 14:54 Im starting to think the same way about the chaplain. The problem i have is that ive just bought a model of our chapter master and converted him to represent a normal dark angels leader (ill post up pics of him and how i did it). On the other hand the very good looking chaplain with a jump pack will be comming out soon so im bloody tempted to buy him an run a nice assault squad in my force.

Hmmm just had a thought, i could get the chaplain and then convert him so he has the sword of secerts (i really love that sword ), would make him look more like a dark angel (with added symbols sculpted onto him of course).

Re:Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/02/28 16:25 Yeah I mean you cant go wrong with any of the HQ choices and if I werent doing Deathwing I would be using the Commander ... well in my 3rd Battle Company I switch off the Librarian and COmmander because area wide weaken resolve (Fear of the Dark) is a godsend against the low leadership IG.

Re:Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/03/01 11:45 I forget which rule it is... 'Litany of Hate' maybe??

Anyway I used it the other night with my DW army but it paid off big time. My IC with 4 LC termies, a TH/SS, and Sgt (TH/PW).

In that single assault phase I destroyed 6 termies, a predator, annihilator, a single wound on a BT Marshall. I lost nothing.

The explosion of the Pred took out another 4 SM's.

This unit was able to re-roll 'to hits', LC's re-roll wounds, and S5 and I5.

Re:Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/03/01 18:54 I have a question about the blades of reason .. is it any killed model on a roll of 6 or any model killed im combat? The way its worded it is any model killed whether it be by gun or blade... which is nice.

Re:Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/03/05 20:13 Hey guys, just need some advise. How would you guys go about the use of vindicators?

My view is that they really are a defensive weapon and also a terror tactic as the enemy will be very scared of that s10 blast (if not he will be after his whole squad go pop ). Also
i think they should be used in pairs as then the enemy does not have one fat target to fire at.

Really im thinking of just parking one behind some cover half way across the board on one side so the enemy would all be packed in on the other side if they advanced. Then use the other one to make a nice hole in his forces to be folloed up be an assault.

Anyway what are your views

p.s. war ill get back to you on that question

I haven't really used a vindi.. but my two cents is this. You need lots of cover (i.e. city fighting which IIRC is how the vindi came about). It will definately be a target magnet so you will need some other targets to make your opponent have to pick and choose. To me a LR (or LRC) fits this role. It's tough to crack and has decent fire power. The nice thing is you can move and shoot now with the new rules.

Re:Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/03/06 12:43 Yeah im planning on using 2 of them for city fights (ok maybe only one as 2 would annihilate armys). The forge world vindicators are just so nice Brother Xeres Signing out

Re:Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/03/15 08:00 I used a vindi a while ago against necron. Only downside was that the guy passed about 16 of the 20 WBB rolls he had to make...

All round, I think the vindi is a nice addition to a fairly balanced army. It's best when used defensively... don't go driving it into lots of fire, but keep it behind cover and take pot shots at squads that are just in sight. Also, equipping it with a dozer blade allows you to burst through that cover without trouble. (and the FW vindi model with the dozer blade looks SOOOOO good)

Every battle, I use a 10 man scout squad with a sarge with PF and teleport homer as a walking beacon for my termies to deploy
Flank the enemy with the scout squad, drop the termies on the side of the enemy battle line, pour massive amounts of fire into the closest squad and assault with the scouts. In consecutive turns, the termies are free to join the fray with the scouts or carry on moving towards other squads that need cleansing.

Re:Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/03/17 09:21 My favorite tactic is my "scouts of doom" basically a 10 man scout squad, vet sergeant, power fist,CCW, combat shield with artificer armor.

Yes its kind of a bit of a waste of points.. BUT.... infiltrates, 6" move prior to first turn, if you happen to et first turn you are golden because you are in assault first turn tying up a unit in CC so your assault squads can charge in.

another variation of that I have used quite successfully is just making a full DA command squad infiltrate, chaplain, apothecary, standard bearer, company champion.. the whole shebang... first time I used it I assaulted and destroyed a dread first turn.. yeah its a bit of a risk for both techniques and they are in no way cheap, but when they work its BRUTAL. that infiltrating command squad managed to take out 4 full units by itself without taking a single casualty the entire game. just have to break up LOS that first turn so you can deploy at 12" wth scouts its not a problem, but with a command squad deployment is critical if you don't want to take any casualties the first turn... if you don't happen to roll first turn, grit your teeth and hope you either make your saves or the apothecary does his job right.

Re:Dark Angel Tactica - 2006/03/17 09:32 Some things don't add up in your scout squad urbanknight:

- 6" move prior to first turn? This sounds like the Scout Universal Special Rule... but SM Scouts don't have this rule

- Artificer armor and combat shield? They are pretty useless unless your sarge is the only model left in the squad, as the enemy can't target him.
For the same points you can get 2 extra scouts (almost)...

Correct me if I'm wrong...

This combo is indeed pretty usless concerning the targeting priorities. The combat shield however proved itself immensly usefull for me, even on vet. seargats with powerfists.
Very often he has found himself alone against a bunch of rabid space wolves. Those happen to be able to carry 2 special CC weapons per squad. The combat shield enables you to survive the power weapon attack so you can still strike with the powerfist.

I agree that it should never be used by itself, but you need not necessarily pair it with another Vindi. Instead, you could pair it with a Predator, which is a much greater threat at longer range, and should draw fire away from the Vindi.

If possible, deploy it behind a piece of area terrain and drive it forward into the terrain or edge around it first turn. Its purpose should really be to force your opponent to hesitate about advancing down one specific side of the board and to prevent a flanking manouver.

I would rarely advance the Vindi very far, except against horde/low AP lists, but instead keep it back as a support for my wall-o-fire.

Of course, all of this is conjecture. I plan to finish painting up my Vindicator + Predator Annihilator combo tonight and put it into play Thursday evening. We'll see how it does in practice...
