Tales of Conquest - 2006/03/02 16:43 Fellow Angels, how are your battles going?

Who did you fight and who won?

My last battle is already some time ago. It was a turnament battle against a pure Kroot army. Unfortunately my list was more suited to open up tanks and killing 3+ armys, so a horde army was quite some pain. The target was to secure table quarters (alpha).

Never fighting kroot before, it suprized me how fast those guys are. I only had two rounds of shooting on the two big (20 kroot, 20 hounds) squads. Although most shoots hit and wounded, there were still too much kroot left.

My main squads were killed quickly by the sheer amount of attacks of the charging kroot. The remaing krook were under half unitstrengt, but still a treat for my army.

His kroot snipers were disposed of pretty fast by a krak missle.

So was also his HQ unit (that hid in his depoiment zone).
A 'surgical drop pod strike' (and the corresponded 20 bolter rounds) disposed of him quickly.

As the battle progressed there were only 4 scoring units left. An other krook sniping squad and my 5 tactical marines hold a quarter each.
One of the other two quarters were held by my HQ. The other by a fraction of a kroot squad that hid behind ruins.

The climax as undoubtly the 6th and final turn. In an attempt to be victorious I used Fury of Ancients on his hiding squad (that was now barely at half unit str. and I needed to kill only one kroot).
I succesfully rolled my psi-test. Only one of the two hits wounded. Now all that separated me form victory was a 6+ armor save! ...

...

...

...

...which, against all odds, succeded!

Even though it ended in a draw, it was probably one of the most enthralling games I played. Until the end, both of us were even. Great game!

Re:Tales of Conquest - 2006/03/03 13:26 Well done Ravenheart, I’ve often found that sometimes the most thrilling of games are the nail biting draws or even close loses. I can’t say I’ve faced and Kroot before, any tips?

The two things that made those Kroot I faced so dangerous, was their speed (fleet of foot) and the size of the two main squads. Counting 40 minis each, it is very hard to get rid of them. If you get charged by them, things get ugly.
He charged multiple units at once, which was no problem due to the size of the squad, a pretty clever move.

Best is to take a Whirlwind with you to get rid of them before they reach you. And flamers, never forget flamers.

I'd don't know them in detail, but Kroot have (like Nids) costumsation option for squads. He has taken +1 I but there are plenty of other options to tailor Kroot to fit the opponent.
If you can prepare yourself to face kroot, they are not that scary. Heavy bolters, flamethrowers and a whirlwind will get the job done quickly. But in a turnament (that wass 3+ heavy on top) they were a nasty suprise.

@Topic: This thread is free for all! Post your battles guys. Its allways good to share experience.
